Here comes "Something to know about American States" series again! Do you know which is the smallest state in the United States? You might even catch Taylor Swift vacationing here.
The answer is Rhode Island (RI) in northeast New England. Even though Rhode Island is the smallest state, it still boasts 11 colleges and universities. “The Ocean State” has a unique mixture of seaside New England Colonial townships, beautiful sandy shores, bays, and inlets. It's home to several large cities, including Newport, famed for sailing and Gilded Age mansions, and also the location of Taylor Swift’s summer house. In the capital, Providence, you can find Brown University, landscaped Waterplace Park and Riverwalk, with its famed WaterFire art installation.

每年的這個時間又來了。世界各地的果粉，很多人都引頸期盼著，一系列新的蘋果產品的發表。今天最讓人注目的莫過於外型毀譽參半的三鏡頭 iPhone Pro11。
每年的產品發表會，大眾看的應該都是商品，邊想著怎麼那麼貴，但又邊想著要來存錢。但有很多不同領域的專家，從各個多元的角度，在看這一個一年一度的盛會。
出版了 Start With Why / Find Your Why 的暢銷作者 Simon Sinek 很喜歡在書中用 Apple 當成例子，敘述尤其在 Steve Jobs 時期，清楚溝通公司的使命、purpose 這項環節，讓蘋果在眾多賣手機、電腦的競爭者中脫穎而出。
應用語言學家、消費者心理的專家，則會特別注意到在發表會上使用的極端語言、誇飾 (hyperbole)，其實無不是在刺激消費者的購物慾望。
"They are hype-generating spectacles (讓人感到亢奮的演出) meant to stoke desire (目的是用來刺激慾望). A key part of that is the hyperbole (誇飾) that Apple uses. Every product is the best ever, the industry leader, or the first of its kind."
哈佛大學教授 Amy Cuddy (TED: Your Body May Shape Who You Are 主講者) 則會分析，每年在產品發表會上的講者們，如何用「手勢」和「聲音」，來展現自信。
繼 smartphone 和社群網絡的興起後，有另外一群研究者，轉而研究「社群網站 (social-networking sites)」、跟 smartphone 使用這樣的「習慣」，對人的心理、人際關係等等面向的影響。
出版暢銷書深度工作力 (Deep Work)、和數位極簡主義 (Digital Minimalism) 、Georgetown Univ. 電腦科學教授 Cal Newport 在兩本書裡談到，我們如何在一個 distracting world (充滿分心事物的) 世界，活得自在、做事有成效、不要焦慮恐慌、培養專注力。
Neuroscience News and Research 就曾轉發過一篇由 Alice Thomson 撰寫的文章，其標題為 "Tech Billionaire Parenting"，內容相當諷刺，內容談到比爾蓋茲夫婦、Steve Jobs 等人，如何限制他們的孩子使用這些科技產品：
"Melinda Gates' children don't have smartphones and only use a computer in the kitchen. Her husband Bill spends hours in his office reading books while everyone is refreshing their homepage. ....M. Zuckerberg wants his daughters to read Dr. Seuss and play outside rather than use Messenger Kids. Steve Jobs strictly limited his children's use of technology at home.
It's astonishing (讓人驚訝的) if you think about it; the more money you make out of the tech industry, the more you appear to shield your family from its effects."
